AI & Content Creation Disclosure Policy

At Africa Wild Child, we believe in being transparent about how our editorial content, photographs, graphics, advertisements and other digital materials are created.
Modern publishing and design increasingly involve a combination of traditional creative work, digital design software and artificial intelligence (AI) tools. Our use of these technologies does not replace human editorial judgment, research, creative direction or review.
This policy explains how we use AI and digital design tools and how readers can identify content that has involved AI assistance.
Our Approach
Our content is created under human direction and is reviewed before publication.
Where AI tools are used, they are treated as creative or production tools rather than as independent authors. Human judgment remains responsible for the subject matter, creative direction, selection, editing, accuracy and final presentation of published material.
We may use software such as Canva and other digital tools for graphic design, layout, image editing, formatting and visual presentation. The use of such software does not, by itself, mean that a piece of content was generated by AI.
Our Content Disclosure Categories
To make our disclosures consistent, we use three primary categories.
1. Human-Created
This designation applies when generative AI has not been used in creating the relevant content.
Disclosure:
"Human-Created: Researched, created and reviewed by a human."
This may include content designed using conventional digital software, including Canva, provided that generative AI has not been used in its creation.
2. AI-Assisted
This designation applies when AI has been used to assist with selected parts of the creative or production process, while the human creator remains responsible for the overall content and final result.
Examples may include AI-assisted editing, brainstorming, language assistance, image enhancement or other limited creative assistance.
Disclosure:
"AI-Assisted: Human-created and reviewed, with AI used to assist with selected elements."
3. AI-Generated Elements
This designation applies when generative AI has been used to create identifiable elements of the published material.
Examples may include an AI-generated photograph, illustration, background, graphic element, written passage or other creative component.
Disclosure:
"AI-Generated Elements: Human-directed and reviewed, with AI used to create selected visual or creative elements."
The disclosure does not mean that every part of the published material was generated by AI. It identifies that AI was used for a particular element or elements.
AI-Generated Advertising and Promotional Material
Some advertisements, promotional graphics and social media content may incorporate AI-generated imagery or other AI-assisted creative elements.
Where this occurs, the material remains subject to human creative direction and review. We select, edit, arrange and approve the final material before publication.
For these materials, the appropriate disclosure will generally be:
"AI-Generated Elements: Human-directed and reviewed, with AI used to create selected visual or creative elements."
Where appropriate, a shorter disclosure may appear on the advertisement itself, with this policy providing the full explanation.
Canva and Other Design Software
Canva and similar design platforms may be used for graphic design, page layout, typography, image editing, formatting and publication.
Using Canva does not automatically mean that a particular piece of content was generated using artificial intelligence.
At the same time, some design platforms provide access to generative AI features. Where such features are used to create or materially contribute to published content, we will classify the relevant material according to the disclosure categories above.
Human Editorial Responsibility
Regardless of the tools used during production, final publication remains a human editorial decision.
Where applicable, this includes:
- researching subject matter;
- assessing and selecting information;
- determining the editorial purpose and angle;
- providing creative direction;
- reviewing written and visual material;
- editing and correcting content;
- checking material for accuracy and relevance; and
- approving the final version for publication.
AI-generated or AI-assisted material is not automatically accepted as accurate simply because it has been produced by an AI system. Appropriate human review remains necessary.
About Automated AI Detection
AI detection systems and platform-generated labels are not necessarily definitive evidence of how a particular piece of content was produced.
Digital platforms may use automated systems, metadata, provenance information or other technical signals when assigning AI-related labels. These systems can distinguish between different types of content imperfectly, particularly where conventional design software, image editing, compression, resizing, templates or other digital production tools are involved.
For this reason, an automated AI label should not necessarily be interpreted as meaning that an entire article, advertisement, image or post was generated by AI.
Our disclosures are intended to provide a more meaningful explanation of the actual role AI played in creating the relevant material.
Why We Disclose AI Use
We disclose AI involvement because transparency matters.
Our objective is not to suggest that AI-assisted or AI-generated material is inherently unreliable or inappropriate. Instead, we believe readers should be able to understand how published material was produced and make their own informed judgments.
We will continue to review our practices as AI technology, publishing standards and platform requirements develop.
Short-Form Disclosures
Because repeating a lengthy explanation on every article, image or advertisement would be impractical, individual content may use one of the following short disclosures:
Human-Created
"Human-Created: Researched, created and reviewed by a human."
AI-Assisted
"AI-Assisted: Human-created and reviewed, with AI used to assist with selected elements."
AI-Generated Elements
"AI-Generated Elements: Human-directed and reviewed, with AI used to create selected visual or creative elements."
Where space is limited, a shortened version may be used together with a reference to this policy.
For example:
"AI-Generated Elements. See our AI & Content Creation Policy."
Scope of This Policy
This policy applies to editorial articles, photographs, illustrations, graphics, advertisements, promotional materials, social media content and other digital material published by Africa Wild Child where AI or digital creative tools may be relevant to the creation process.
Individual pieces of content may not always carry a detailed explanation of every production tool used. The disclosure identifies the material aspect of AI involvement rather than providing a complete technical history of every software application used during production.
Updates to This Policy
As technology and industry practices develop, we may update this policy to reflect changes in our publishing processes, AI tools, platform requirements and accepted standards for content transparency.
The date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was most recently updated.
